Owner/Engineer Randy Ward is a Berklee trained musician and professional audio engineer who was raised on analog and experienced the audio industry's remarkable transition to digital during his tenure as an editor/mixer at Sync Sound, Inc. in NYC, one of the biggest audio post-production facilities on the east coast. Randy brings over 35 years of experience as a musician, live sound engineer, sound editor and mixer to your multitrack music project, multimedia application, podcast/audiobook, commercial, corporate presentation, film, or TV program.
The music production and audio post-production process formerly required multi-million dollar facilities with digital/analog multitrack tape recorders, specialized film/video hardware and machines, expensive outboard gear, large format mixing consoles, expensively constructed and acoustically treated edit/mix rooms and primary locations in urban hubs such as NYC and LA. Today's amazing technological advances have enabled music production and audio post-production to move into personal studios practically everywhere in the world, producing professional broadcast quality audio rivaling that of the top tier studios.
As the home studio boom continues to gain momentum, technology has kept pace, exceeding all expectations in its ability to deliver professional quality audio at a modest price. The music industry was among the first to adopt the new home studio technology, and the post-production community has begun to follow suit due to advances in digital video capture and editing technology. In a parallel technological advance, the rise of consumer audio and video delivery via the internet (download/streaming) has greatly impacted record sales and Box Office proceeds that record labels and studios depended on for their business. This ever-changing musical & technological landscape, along with a difficult economy and lowering production budgets, has resulted in the closing of many an iconic recording studio. I was a personal witness to at least six top NYC studio closings: The Power Station, The Hit Factory, Sony Music Studios, Sound One, Howard Schwartz Recording, and Sync Sound, Inc. The upside to the technology boom is that more content is now available to more people than ever before, broadening potential audiences, opening new creative opportunities to explore and much more content to create.
In some ways the entertainment industry has come full circle...going back to being small and entrepreneurial. As budgets grow smaller and technology grows bigger, DIY multimedia, music and film production is quickly rising, and will certainly trend upward in the future. Freelance and remote audio services are gaining momentum in all areas of production. Big R Music & Post Production is poised to help you create the best audio product possible at an affordable cost.
