Berklee Online (2016), Music Marketing Specialist Certificate

I began my musical career at the age of 9 as a classically-trained French Horn player, studying with brass faculty at Mason Gross School of the Arts throughout middle school and high school. During this time, I picked up the guitar and electric bass, developing a strong taste for heavy metal, classic and hard rock, progressive rock and jazz fusion. I was heavily influenced by artists such as Rush, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Steve Morse Band, Weather Report and all the bass greats such as Geddy Lee, Steve Harris, Billy Sheehan, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Jeff Berlin & Jaco Pastorius, just to name a few.

I studied for 2 years with bass virtuoso Dave LaRue (Steve Morse Band, Dixie Dregs, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, G3, Flying Colors, Dave LaRue Band), continuing my musical education by attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. I performed and recorded regularly with local Boston acts and in Berklee concerts throughout my tenure in college. While attending Berklee, I worked as a freelance audio engineer at a fantastic local studio, Inner City Sound, which was equipped with a beautiful sounding NEVE 8078 console, Studer multitracks and a vast array of vintage and modern condenser and dynamic mics and amazing outboard gear. I graduated in 1990 with a degree in Music Production and Engineering, with a minor in electric bass performance.

After graduating Berklee, I landed a position as audio editor and mixer at Sync Sound, Inc., a world-class NYC post-production sound studio. During this stretch of well over a decade, my musical performance was placed on the back-burner so that I could concentrate on my professional audio career while raising a family of triplet sons. While at Sync Sound, I amassed an impressive list of audio recording, editing and mixing credits for TV, Film & DVD projects from clients such as MTV, HBO, NBC, CBS, ESPN, Atlantic Records, Sony Music & Elektra Records.

After Sync Sound, I took a position at Rutgers University and for a start-up biotechnology company, Brighter Ideas, Inc as a product manager and IT manager. During this period, after a 12 year long hiatus from bass playing, I dusted off my basses and began studying and playing again with renewed enthusiasm. I began gigging again in 2005 with several local NJ bands, including hard rock bands Clutching Freedom and Wildcard, a 7-piece horn band, The World Famous Gashouse Gang, playing oldies, doo-wop, R&B, jazz, fusion, funk, Motown, blues, & classic rock, a killer Staten-Island based blues band, Blues Ball, as well as the popular "jersey-sound" wedding band, Living Proof. My love of music and music technology steered me another direction and I began working at Guitar Center in Pro Audio and Guitar/Bass sales. I began teaching bass lessons, giving Protools and Garageband tutorials/seminars and consulting on professional audio installations.

In 2015, I decided to take several online music marketing courses at Berklee Online, greatly expanding my knowledge on the subject of promoting and selling live and recorded original music in the modern age. What a fantastic amount of knowledge I amassed from these courses, knowledge I hope to use for future projects as I continue this musical journey of mine.

MY BANDS

I moved to the Jersey Shore in early 2017 and hooked up with many excellent musicians in the area. I played with several groups, Silver Reign (Brick, NJ), The OLV Big Band (Lakewood, NJ) & The Sharptones (Toms River, NJ). Each band performing distinctly different genres of music.

I am currently the bassist, background singer & audio engineer for the Drunken Clams: www.drunkenclams.com
We play well over 100 gigs a year, up and down the Jersey shore from Atlantic City to Woodbridge.

In late 2017 I built a multi-functional professional home studio providing audio for video post-production, music recording/mixing/mastering, sound design, music composition, SFX/Dialog/ADR/Music/Foley editing, foley & ADR recording, and re-recording mixing in Pro Tools Ultimate. In addition to providing an excellent environment for my own personal music projects, my new studio is designed to attract musical acts/bands that need professional audio/video services for their music demo, album, music video, live concert or YouTube project and local businesses and filmmakers who need post-production audio services for their commercial, corporate presentation, film or video release. I also teach music lessons and Pro Tools editing/mixing techniques.

Over the years, I have played a variety of different basses and guitars, including fretless 4, 5 and 6-string basses, fretted 4, 5 and 6-string basses, classical nylon-string guitars, 6/12-steel string guitars and a variety of solid-body electrics. I've owned and played instruments from Fender, Gibson, Martin, Alvarez, Warwick, Spector, Cort, Aria Pro II, Yamaha, Ibanez, Washburn, Squire, Ovation, Guild, Sire by Marcus Miller and custom-built MüB basses from Italian luthier, Maurizio Caduto: https://www.mauriziouberbasses.com/mubers.  Here's my my current GEAR list.

I continue to receive musical and engineering inspiration from all those I play, perform and record with. I am truly at home with a bass in my hands, or recording/editing/mixing a multitrack audio project or post-production project at home or in the studio!
